Sasuke gains the upper hand over Danzo, having tricked him into using up Izanagi. Danzo takes Karin as a hostage but Sasuke shoots his Chidori blade through them both, fatally wounding Danzo in the process. As Danzo runs away while Sasuke slowly follows, Madara suddenly appears in front of him; in desperation, Danzo activates a self-destruction technique, intending to seal Sasuke and Madara with him. As he dies, Danzo recalls the mission when Senju Tobirama, the second Hokage, sacrificed himself to protect the younger generation of Konoha and assigned Hiruzen Sarutobi to be the next Hokage.
